Tricks and tips to get the best Currituck rental experience:
When to visit Corolla & When to book:
- In the Currituck area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area travel guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting and booking your prefectrental home:
- Choose vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Lost At Sea
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
