Tips to get the best rental experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Currituck vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many property management companies supply Currituck area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the perfect vacation rental:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Well appointed OBX beach house with access to community pool and tennis courts has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
