Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • In the Currituck area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer time is high season in Corolla. To get the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Currituck visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your family agree to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Once Upon A Tide: Private Pool, Brand New Hot Tub, Dog-friendly, Club Amenities! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If not, call the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your invoice.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
