Our top Currituck rental home tips and tricks:
When to book a Currituck rental & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Currituck vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Currituck visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. OBX 4X4 Ocean View- Pipers Place Wild Horse Haven!!! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Advice for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
