Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Currituck vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summer is high season in the Currituck area. Reserve your Currituck rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting the best vacation rental in the Currituck area:
- Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Family Friendly 5BR Private Saltwater Pool potential heat plus 150 yds to beach has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
