Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation rental experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, shift your family's Currituck trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the Currituck area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Pet-friendly with pool, hot has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a particular Currituck destination you long to visit, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
