Strategies to get the very best rental experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Currituck visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the perfect rental home:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Hide Away Heaven: Pool, Hot Tub, Screened Porch has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
