Rental property booking tips:
When to book a Currituck rental & When to go:
- Summertime is high season in the Currituck area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- In the Currituck area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose vacation dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. 2 blocks to ocean, 4 bedrooms, pet friendly has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Currituck rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
