Tips to get the very best vacation home experience:
When to book a Currituck rental & When to go:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the largest vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Currituck visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Selecting and booking your Currituck vacation home:
- Select your vacation dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 2 blocks to ocean, 4 bedrooms, pet friendly has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
Advice for a great stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
