How to book the best vacation home experience:
When to reserve a Currituck rental home & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Currituck area travel guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- To start, have your group choose a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Egret Alley: Dog-Friendly, Priv. Pool, Perfect Sunsets has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
