Tricks and tips to get the best Currituck vacation property experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best rental home within budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Carolina Daydreamin': Ocean Views, Private Pool & Spa has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is suitable for your group.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
  • Does your group require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
