Corolla: Clean Beaches and Preserved History
Corolla is known as a laidback Outer Banks beach, ideal for spending time in a vacation home and on the beach with the people you appreciate -- mostly clear of tourist distractions. But don't think that means Corolla is short on lively things to do and places to eat! Whalehead mansion has been around for nearly 100 years and was completely restored in the 1990s to its original construction and decor. This massive 21,000 square foot historic mansion is open for tours and is a prime location for many weddings, get-togethers, and other events!
In the same Historic Corolla Park area, you can hop right over to the new Currituck Maritime Museum. The museum just opened in 2021 and is filled with elegant, entirely-restored historic boats and the rich history associated with them. You can also tour other exhibits offered by the museum on lighthouses, fishing, lifesaving stations, and weather. After you've had your fill of the Currituck Maritime Museum, take the kiddos over to the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education. Here, everybody can learn about all the waterfowl and other wildlife of the estuarine habitat in the Currituck Sound!
When everybody's stomachs begin to rumble and you don't feel like cooking, you can stop in Uncle Ike's Sandbar & Grille for steamed seafood, sandwiches, salads, and more! Wet your whistle with a famed 'Ike's Bloody Mary' and if you stick around after dinner you may have an unexpected nighttime of fun with a DJ, live performers, or karaoke! If you're more of a fine beer connoisseur than a beverage fan, you'll want to check out the Corolla Beer Garden, tucked away on Ocean Trail. Vacation rental tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- To get the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose and book the perfect Currituck vacation home:
- Begin by choosing vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. 1305 Sea Biscuit *Theater*Elevator*Game Rm*Hot Tub has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your family.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
