Our top Rental home tips:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer is high season in the Currituck area. Book your rental in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Currituck area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Choosing the best vacation rental:

  • To start, have your family choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Oceanfront with a Roof-Top Deck. Close to Shopping and Restaurants. has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. If not, email or call the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
