Strategies to get the best Currituck vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your Currituck rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose vacation week and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Heron Comes the Sun: Soundside, Pet-Friendly w\/ Private Pool and Club Amenities has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
