Finding the best vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your Currituck rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- In the Currituck area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Currituck area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing your trip dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Gone To Sea: Oceanfront, Spa, Great ocean views! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
