Our top Rental property booking tips:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your Currituck vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Choosing the best rental in the Currituck area:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. The Hunkerdowner: Soundside with a private pool and hot tub and dog friendly! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If not, email the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. text the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
