Vacation rental home tips:
Find your perfect rental:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Corolla. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Currituck vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Currituck visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- Choose vacation dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Spacious Oceanside Home w/ Pool, Hot Tub, Tiki Bar, & Rec Room has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If not, call the host before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- If there's an individual Currituck beach you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
More considerations:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
