Vacation rental tips and tricks:

Finding your best deal:

  • Summer time is high season in Carova. Reserve your Currituck rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • In the Currituck area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Currituck area visitors guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Currituck visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting and booking a perfect Currituck rental:

  • Choose vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Panoramic ocean views and secluded beaches at Starboard Watch in Carova! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
