Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the most suitable rental home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
Planning, selecting, and booking the bestrental home:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. 20% Discount on April & May Weeks w\/ Free Pool Heat! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
